Gataddhino visokassa 가땃디노 위소까사
vippamuttassa sabbadhi 윕빠뭇따싸 삽바디
sabbaganthappahīnassa 삽바간탑빠히나싸
parilāho na vijjati. 빠릴라호 나 윗자띠.
생사의 여행은 끝났다.
근심과 걱정을 떠나
모든 얽매임을 끊고 자유를 얻은 사람,
아라한에게 이제 괴로움은 없다.
There is no suffering for him who has finished his journey,
and abandoned grief, who has freed himself on all sides,
and thrown off all fetters.
7-91
Uyyuñjanti satīmanto 위윤잔띠 사띠만또
na nikete ramanti te 나 니께떼 라만띠 떼
haṃsāva pallalaṃ hitvā 항사와 빨랄랑 히뜨와
okamokaṃ jahanti te 오까모깡 자한띠 떼
수행자는
감각적 쾌락을 즐거워하지 않는다.
마치 백조가 진흙 연못을 쉽게 버리듯
아라한은 모든 욕망을 던져 버린다.
They depart with their thoughts well-collected,
they are not happy in their abode;
like swans who have left their lake,
they leave their house and home.
7-92
Yesaṃ sannicayo natthi 예상 산니짜요 낫티
ye pariññātabhojanā 예 빠린나따보자나
suññato animitto ca 순냐또 아니밋또 짜
vimokkho yesaṃ gocaro 위목코 예상 고짜로
ākāseva sakuntānaṃ 아까세와 사꾼따낭
gati tesaṃ durannayā. 가띠 떼상 두란나야.
아라한은 아무것도 모아두지 않는다.
음식을 받을 때도 의미를 잘 새긴다.
닙바나는 빔이요, 자취 없음,
다만 해탈만이 목적이어니
아, 마치 새들이 허공을 날아도 자취가 없듯이
아라한이 가는 길에도 자취가 없다.
Men who have no riches, who live on recognised food,
who have perceived void and unconditioned freedom (Nirvana),
their path is difficult to understand, like that of birds in the air.
7-93
Yassāsavā parikkhīṇā 야싸사와 빠릭키나
āhāre ca anissito 아하레 짜 아니씨또
suññato animmitto ca 순냐또 아니미또 짜
vimokkho yassa gocaro 위목코 야싸 고짜로
아라한은 모든 번뇌로부터 벗어난 사람
먹고 입음에 집착하지 않는다
닙바나는 빔이요, 자취 없음,
다만 해탈만이 목적이니
아, 마치 새들이 허공을 날아도 자취가 없듯이
아라한이 가는 길에는 자취가 없다.
He whose appetites are stilled, who is not absorbed in enjoyment,
who has perceived void and unconditioned freedom (Nirvana),
his path is difficult to understand, like that of birds in the air.
7-94
Yassindriyāni samathaṇgatāni 야씬드리야니 사마탕가따니
assā yathā sārathinā sudantā 아싸 야타 사라티나 수단따
pahīnamānassa anāsavassa 빠히나마싸 아나사와싸
devāpi tassa pihayanti tādino. 데와삐 따싸 삐하얀띠 따디노.
잘 길들여진 말처럼
모든 감관이 고요하고
교만과 번뇌로부터 완전히 벗어난 아라한은
천인도 부러워한다.
The gods even envy him whose senses,
like horses well broken in by the driver, have been subdued,
who is free from pride, and free from appetites.
7-95
Pathavisamo no virujjhati 빠타위사모 노 위룻자띠
indakhilupamo tādi subbato 인다킬루빠모 따디 숩바또
rahadova apetakaddamo 라하도와 아뻬따깟다모
saṃsārā na bhavanti tādino. 삼사라 나 바완띠 따디노.
대지와 같이 너그럽고
문지방처럼 의무를 다하고
칭찬과 비난에도 동요가 없으며
마음은 고요하여 맑은 호수와 같은 사람,
이러한 아라한에게 다시 태어남은 없다.
Such a one who does his duty is tolerant like the earth,
like Indra's bolt; he is like a lake without mud;
no new births are in store for him.
7-96
Santaṃ tassa manaṃ hoti 산땅 따싸 마낭 호띠
santā vācā ca kamma ca 산따 와짜 짜 깜마 짜
sammadaññā vimuttassa 삼마단냐 위뭇따싸
upasantassa tādino. 우빠산따싸 따디노
말과 행동이 고요하고
진실로 담마를 깨달은 사람,
모든 번뇌로부터 벗어나
행복과 불행에 동요하지 않는다.
His thought is quiet, quiet are his word and deed,
when he has obtained freedom by true knowledge,
when he has thus become a quiet man.
7-97
Assaddho akataññu ca 아쌋도 아까딴뉴 짜
sandhicchedo ca yo naro 산딧체도 짜 요 나로
hatāvakāso vantāso 하따와까소 완따소
sa ve uttamaporiso 사 웨 웃따마뽀리소.
닙바나를 깨달은 사람은
다른 사람의 말을 쉽게 믿지 않는다
생사윤회의 얽매임을 끊고
착하고 악한 행동의 결과에 얽매이지 않고
온갖 욕망을 버렸으니 참으로 뛰어난 성자이니.
The man who is free from credulity, but knows the uncreated,
who has cut all ties, removed all temptations,
renounced all desires, he is the greatest of men.
7-98
Gāme vā yadi vāraññe 가메 와 야디 와란네
ninne vā yadi vā thale 닌네 와 야디 와 탈레
yattha arahanto viharanti 얏타 아라한또 위하란띠
taṃ bhūmirāmaṇeyyakaṃ 땅 부미라마네이야깡.
마을이거나 숲이거나
골짜기거나 언덕이거나
어디이든 간에
아라한이 머무는 곳은 즐겁다.
In a hamlet or in a forest, in the deep water or on the dry land,
wherever venerable persons (Arhanta) dwell, that place is delightful.
7-99
Ramaṇīyāni araññani 라만이야니 아란냐니
yattha na ramatī jano 얏타 나 나마띠 자노
vītarāgā ramissanti 위따라가 라미싼띠
na te kāmagavesino 나 떼 까마가웨시노.
숲 속이야말로 즐거운 곳.
세상 사람들이 즐거워하지 않는 곳에서
탐욕을 버린 이들은 즐거워한다.
그들은 이제 더 이상 감각적인 쾌락을 구하지 않기에.
Forests are delightful; where the world finds no delight,
there the passionless will find delight,
for they look not for pleasures.
